Q. Where did you move from, and how did you end up in the Red Hawk Valley neighborhood of Black Earth?
A. We were moving from La Crosse and had searched in Madison and surrounding suburbs for a year and then began looking at lots in the smaller outlying communities. We liked the quiet setting of the Red Hawk Valley where it was similar to where we had been living near La Crosse.
Jerry and Nan
It was the combination of woods, farmland, and great looking homes that attracted us to Red Hawk Valley. We also appreciated the variety of ages in the neighborhood ranging from young families to retirees. The neighbors also show pride in caring for their homes, yards and landscaping. Being in a country setting, but still having city services such as water, sewer, sidewalks and street lighting were all important features to us. Most of all, we were impressed with our builder, Dan Heffron.
Q. Were there any surprises of building and moving into a brand new home?
A. We had built a home before, but not while residing so far away. Dan and staff were amazing at communicating everything that was being accomplished and responding promptly to our questions and concerns throughout the process. Every trip to see the house and the progress being made was a pleasant surprise.
Q. Are there particular features or design elements that you are happy were incorporated into your new home?
A. We love our choice of windows, flooring and counter tops. Being an older couple, we wanted zero entries and three foot doorways throughout the house. While a retaining wall was required from the beginning, it ended up being more than we anticipated and has become quite the conversation piece that has made our property truly unique. Jaclyn, the interior design specialist, was a huge help with narrowing down choices for both the interior and exterior design. Her background, expertise and experience made the process both easier and enjoyable.
Q. How do you spend time with your family around the area? Are you involved in the community?
A. Two of our children live in Madison, so now we can do more activities with them, and they are also spending more time with us. We have dined at local restaurants, but really haven’t had time yet to become involved in community activities.
Q. If you could offer advice about building, what would it be?
A. Be sure to have a design and color pallet in mind. Bring your folder of ideas to each meeting so that you are ready to discuss them with Dan and Jaclyn. Be open to the recommendations from the experts on staff and think about what would make your house a home that reflects your lifestyle and really fits your needs. Keep open minded so you don’t lock yourself into your first choice on everything. Listen to the experts at Heffron Homes!
Thank You, Nan and Jerry, for sharing your story with us. You've built a beautiful home and we're proud to say we've worked together with you on this project. We wish you happiness in Red Hawk Valley for many, many years.
