Andrea & Kevin
Q. Andrea and Kevin, where did you move from, and how did you end up in the Fieldstone neighborhood?
A. We both grew up in Sauk Prairie and knew we wanted to stay in the area. We like the location of Fieldstone because it is close to Andrea’s work and has a really great view of the surrounding area.
Q. How do you spend time around the area? Are you involved in the community?
A. Kevin is very involved in the Prairie du Sac fire department and the neighborhood is just a few blocks away from the department.
Q. Could you explain what it is about the neighborhood that you enjoy… or what drew you to living in your particular neighborhood?
A. The Fieldstone neighborhood has a nice park and is a low traffic area, and of course the proximity to the fire department sold Kevin right away.
Q. Were there any surprises of building a new home?
A. We were lucky to not have too many surprises. Kevin is in the trades and Andrea’s dad used to build log homes, so we were both familiar with the process of building a home. It was still a lot of fun to drive by on days when a lot of visible progress had been made, like once the trusses went up and the days it got sided or drywalled. Seeing it come together from in our heads to paper to in front of us is always a fun process!
Q. If you could offer advice about building, what would it be?
A. Think through how everything is going to function for you. I remember one night Kevin and I were at the house and it was just framed up and we realized that with the corner fireplace our large sectional couch wouldn’t fit in the room very well. We were moving blocks of wood around the floor and measuring everything, finally we decided to move the fireplace out of the corner to along the wall with build-ins around it. Of course we wound up getting new furniture anyway, but we didn’t realize what it would look like from paper to actually standing in the room and seeing how it was going to lay out.
Q. Are there particular features or design elements that you are happy were incorporated into your new home?
A. We have kind of a hidden pantry that when you look at it, you think it’s just another set of cupboards, but when you open the door it’s actually a walk in pantry. We also have a nice tiled shower that we were able to recess into the floor a few inches and avoid having to put a door on it.
Thank you Andrea and Kevin! Your home is beautiful.
We appreciate you sharing your story with us.
