Q. Where did you move from, and how did you end up in the Fieldstone neighborhood?
A. After Jerry retired, we wanted to move closer to our children and grandchildren in southern Wisconsin. When our home in northern Wisconsin sold, we needed to find somewhere to live rather quickly and by chance, found a rental house in Prairie du Sac. We love the hills, the Wisconsin River and the easy access to Madison! We began to look for a house to purchase, but nothing met our needs. We visited a Heffron open house in Blackhawk Fields and were very impressed with the quality of workmanship. A representative from Heffron Homes followed up with us after that open house and we began the design/build process. Fieldstone was only two blocks from the house we were renting and we loved the neighborhood, so we decided to stay.

Q. Were there any surprises of building and moving into a brand new home?
A. The biggest surprise was how easy the process of designing and building our “forever home” was with the help of the Heffron crew. Neither of us had ever been through the building process and they made it a very enjoyable experience. Dan Jr. listened carefully to our vision for a home and created an excellent initial design that we worked together to modify over three months until it was “just right.” We can’t say enough about Jaclyn and her interior design sense. She took our vision for a house and made it even better by adding small touches here and there to maximize storage and functionality and make it beautiful and timeless.
Q. Are there particular features or design elements that you are happy were incorporated into your new home?
A. Three things come to mind . . . first and foremost is our kitchen. The house was basically designed around the idea that we love to entertain and find that when we do, everyone seems to gather in the kitchen. Thus, we went with an open concept kitchen, dining, living room area with an extra-large island that seats up to six people. A large pantry sits in the corner of the kitchen with lots of storage, which was a “must have” for us since Jerry loves to cook and we wanted ample storage for his pots, pans, appliances, cooking ingredients, etc. Everything is within arm’s reach which makes cooking and clean-up easy.
The second feature that we are so happy we added is a third stall in our garage. Instead of designing it so that three vehicles sit side-by-side, we went with a tandem design. We have a fishing boat that we store in the back of the garage with a vehicle in front of it. Consequently, the garage doesn’t look too large in comparison to the rest of the house. If we decide to sell the boat someday, we will have ample room for storage or for a workshop.
And the last feature that we want to mention is an office area in the lower level family room. Currently, we work out of our home and need space for a computer, printer and for files. There was a small “nook” in the family room that didn’t really serve a purpose, so we asked Heffron to install cabinetry and countertop to create a workspace. It is a great way to utilize an otherwise “unusable” space! We love having somewhere quiet to work and to hide the mess!
Q. If you could offer advice about building, what would it be?
A. Our advice would be to “go for it!” We were nervous about building because we had never done it and were intimidated by all the decisions that would have to be made. But, we are so happy that we decided to build our “forever house” and that we chose Heffron to build it for us. Also, do some research prior to making those decisions. The Internet is a great resource for design ideas and advice. We spent countless hours looking at cabinetry, countertops, lighting, etc. prior to meeting with Jaclyn or the vendors so that we had an idea of what we liked and what we didn’t.
Thank You, Ann and Jerry, for giving us a glimpse into your new home and building experience. Your home is absolutely beautiful.

Q. How do you spend time around the area? Are you involved in the community?
A. We love the fact that we are located much closer to family and friends than we were in northern Wisconsin. We enjoy hosting family get-togethers in our beautiful, new home. Since we are relatively new to the community, we spend a lot of time exploring the area. One of our favorite spots that we like to share with visitors is Wollersheim Winery. And, Circus World was a hit with our grandchildren. We’ve only just begun to experience what the Sauk Prairie area has to offer.
Q. Could you explain what it is about the neighborhood that you enjoy… or what drew you to living in your particular neighborhood?
A. Having lived close to Fieldstone for the past two years, we knew that it is a quiet, safe neighborhood with great amenities. There are two parks within walking distance, which our grandchildren have dubbed “really cool!!!” We can look out of our windows and see the beautiful Baraboo Hills. And, we are close to Highway 12, so a shopping trip to either Madison or Wisconsin Dells is quick and easy. We are so happy to be here!
