HOMEOWNER SPOTLIGHT

Danielle and Eric

Black Hawk Fields

Q. Where did you move from, and how did you end up in the Black Hawk Fields neighborhood?

A. Before moving to Black Hawk Fields, we had a stone house a couple blocks off Water Street in Sauk City.  As much as we loved our old house, we were done with the 'fixer-upper' and were ready for a new home.  We walked around Black Hawk Fields and it didn't take long for us to fall in love with the lot where we eventually built.  When we saw the lot, we knew we had to build.

Q. Could you explain what it is about the neighborhood that you enjoy… or what drew you to living in your particular neighborhood?

A. When we first visited the neighborhood we loved the large lot sizes and the views of the bluffs.  After living in town for a while we knew we wanted more space, and the lot we picked was perfect for us.  Even though we wanted space, we didn't want to be isolated, so we were really happy to move to a neighborhood with large lots so we could still have neighbors nearby.  The location of the neighborhood is perfect for us because we are only a few minutes away from Sauk, but we also have a straight shot to the Middleton area for work.

Q. How do you spend time around the area?

A. We love spending time outdoors and enjoy camping, fishing, and walking our dog on the area trails.  In the summer we visit Devil's Lake as often as possible.  Our family lives in the Sauk area, so it's great that we're so close to them and can spend holidays and birthdays together.

Q. Were there particular features or design elements that you were happy you added to your home?

A. We have so many favorite parts of our house, it's hard to choose!  We designed much of the house around the staircase with iron railings.  The mudroom off the dining area is functional and gets a lot of use and the laundry room on the second floor is very convenient.  We also love how many big windows we have - the house is always bright and sunny!

Q. Were there any surprises when building a new home?  Was there anything that you didn’t anticipate?

A. The biggest surprise was how fast it went up!  We were out of the country for a month at the start of the building process, and Heffron kept everything moving along while we were away.  Once we were back, we stopped by all the time to check on things.  Dan and Jaclyn were always very receptive to any questions we had or changes we wanted to make as the house went up.  We are so happy we got to work with Jaclyn on the design - she really helped us pull it all together.

Q. Obviously building a home is quite a process. Do you have advice for those who may be considering building a new home?

A. The process goes by fast, so make sure you take the time to think critically about what matters to you in a home. Agree on a few big picture design ideas before you get started so that when you find yourself spending hours picking out door handles you can take a step back and remember what it is you really want in a home.

Danielle and Eric,

Thank you for sharing your experience, and your beautiful home with us!  You did an amazing job with every detail, and we are thrilled our company was able to work with you.
