HOMEOWNER SPOTLIGHT

Sue and Jim

The Water's Edge

Q. Where did you move from, and how did you end up in The Water's Edge neighborhood on Lake Wisconsin?

A. Jim and Sue moved from the west side of Madison.  Jim grew up on the Fox River in Kimberly. Sue is originally from Richland Center.  We had been looking for property on Lake Wisconsin for a number of years. We really wanted have a retirement home on the water. After looking at many properties on the Lake we decided that building was going to be the best option for us.

Q. How do you spend time around the area?

A. We really enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, camping and being active outdoors.

Q. Could you explain what it is about the neighborhood that you enjoy… or what drew you to living in your particular neighborhood?

A. We were drawn to the Water’s Edge neighborhood because it’s so beautiful. We love the view of our property, the mature trees, and privacy. The close proximity to Prairie du Sac and easy commute to work is ideal.    Planning for retirement, we also appreciate that the Neighborhood Association takes care of the docks, lawn care and snow removal. This gives us more time to enjoy our Lake home.

Q. Were there any surprises about building a new home?

A. I think I (Sue) was surprised at how easy the whole process was.  I never wanted to build as I thought it would be too overwhelming. Throughout the process Senior, Heff and Jaclyn walked us through everything in an orderly manner, so it was not overwhelming at all.  Everything came together beautifully and we wouldn’t change any of the choices we made.   We love our home.

Q. Are there particular features or design elements that you are happy were incorporated into your new home?

A. Jim and I are deck people.  We love being outside.  We grill year-round and spend a lot of time on the deck.  I’m very happy that we have such a large, elevated deck.  The views are awesome.  We have so many different kinds of birds that we feed.  Half of our deck is covered and that is something I didn’t know I would enjoy so much.  In the kitchen, the large island is very functional. I never knew how much I would appreciate having a walk-in pantry in the kitchen.  It’s so handy.  We also love the walk-in shower in the master bath.  We strategically placed pocket throughout where we didn’t want to mess with regular doors opening into each other. We really like that.

Q.  If you could offer advice about building, what would it be?

A. We built our house to live in.  We wanted lots of natural light and windows that provided lake views from almost all the rooms. Our home is not huge, but it’s very functional with an open floor plan and plenty of storage.  As we get to retirement we’ve planned accordingly with no steps from the garage into the main level and large doorways.  It’s a wonderful home we’re really comfortable in.  We really enjoyed the whole process.
