The Community of Bishops Bay
Q. Where did you move from, and how did you end up in The Community of Bishops Bay?
A. We moved from Rockford, IL to Waunakee in 2001 after Mark accepted a new position in Madison. We lived in the Waunakee Heights neighborhood for 20 years. We joined Bishops Bay Country club in 2012, watched the neighborhood develop, and decided we wanted to live near the golf course. After talking with Dan in late 2020, we made the decision to purchase a lot and build our dream home.
Q. How do you spend time around the area? Are you involved in the community?
A. We love the Madison area and enjoy everything it has to offer. We’ve raised both of our boys in Waunakee and have made many friends over the past 22 years that we enjoy spending time with. We enjoy golfing, boating, playing pickleball, dining at great restaurants, and many other activities.
Q. Could you explain what it is about the neighborhood that you enjoy?
A. We really like the location, the neighborhood is quiet, and we knew several of the members of the community prior to moving here. It is very nice to live near the golf course, provides excellent views from our home, and it’s convenient to take our golf cart to the club house.
Q. Were there any surprises of building a new home?
A. This was our first experience building a new home. It was easy to work through the process with the guidance of the entire Heffron Homes' team. We were very pleased with their suggestions and ideas. They helped turn this home into a beautiful place.
Q. Are there particular features or design elements that you are happy were incorporated into your new home?
A. We love the open concept and simplicity of our home. Dan’s suggestion to reduce the ceiling height from 10’ to 9’ allowed us to vault the living room, add beams, and cover the grilling deck. We love being able to live on one level. The zero entry from the garage into the house is also nice feature.
Q. Did you have a favorite part of the building process?
A. Cheri really enjoyed the design meetings with Jaclyn. They were on the same page from the start. She was amazing to work with. It was neat to watch our home go from the foundation, to framing, to completion. We enjoyed making all the selections: flooring, lighting, etc.
Q. If you could offer advice about building, what would it be?
A. With this being our first building experience, we learned it’s important to prepare for the potential of upgrades because you do find things along the way that you want to incorporate in your new home. And we highly recommend building with Heffron Homes, and enjoy the process!
