Q. Where did you move from, and how did you end up in your new neighborhood?
A. We lived in Minneapolis for a couple of years before we moved to Mauston, Wisconsin. While in Mauston we visited Madison often and we really liked it and wanted to raise our family here. So, we decided to build a house on the west side of Madison. While searching online for a reputed builder we stumbled upon Heffron Homes. We contacted them, met Dan and the rest is history. Dan built our first home in the Woodstone neighborhood in Middleton. We really loved their professionalism and how easy it was to work with them. We lived in a beautiful 4-bedroom house they built for us for the past 10 years. As our kids grew up, we were looking for a bigger lot and found a perfect one in the Town of Middleton. Because we liked Heffron Homes so much we didn’t have to look for another builder. We contacted Dan and he was happy to build us our second home.
Q. How do you spend time around the area? Are you involved in the community?
A. We love nature and spend most of the weekends and evenings walking or hiking at the various trials and parks that the Madison area has to offer. We get involved in Nepalese and Bhutanese community events and also have many friends from different communities. We invite families and friends and celebrate a variety of Hindu, Buddhist and Christian holidays and other events. Madison offers lots of outdoor activities and we love to go out as a family to try different restaurants and relax by the lakes.!
Q. Could you explain what it is about the neighborhood that you enjoy?
A. Our neighborhood, which is in the Town of Middleton, is a new neighborhood with a diverse group of people. Besides being in a good school district, the area is very safe with a low crime rate and has lots of walking trails within the neighborhood. The lots are bigger and houses are spread apart which means more privacy and bigger yards, where we enjoy gardening and growing seasonal vegetables.
Q. Are there particular features or design elements that you are happy were incorporated into your new home?
A. We wanted a very modern looking house. The roof, siding colors, and exterior design are very contemporary. We are also very happy with the living room features: the high ceilings, lighting fixtures, built-in overhead speakers, slab cabinets with striking colors and the modern fireplace. Also, the lower level with a walk out feature is designed to incorporate two bedrooms and a beautiful recreational area.
Q. Were there any surprises of building a new home?
A. Because this was the second house we built with Heffron Homes we knew what to expect right from the day we signed the contract. This time around we were able to get more involved and we were able to put in a lot of input during the building process. Dan, Jaclyn, and Renee were extremely helpful in incorporating our ideas and advising us on every stage of the build. What really surprised us was the house looked small when the foundation was laid out, but when they started the ground floor and the project was really coming into fruition, it ended up looking much bigger and spacious– which is exactly what we had asked for..
Q. Did you have a favorite part of the building process?
A. The most memorable part of the entire building process was sharing our ideas with Dan and the design meetings with Jaclyn and Renee. Dan is a true gentleman, very knowledgeable, helpful, always willing to listen and ready to incorporate our ideas and answer any of the crazy questions we often ask. Also visiting the site every few days and seeing the entire building process was a great experience.
Q. If you could offer advice about building, what would it be?
A. If anyone is considering building a new house we recommend Dan and Heffron Homes wholeheartedly. I can’t say enough good things about this builder. They have great people lined up to help you through the entire process. The workmanship, the quality materials, the vendors they use, their years of expertise, very reasonable rates, and their family owned business makes them stand apart from other builders, especially the corporate ones. For anyone planning to build from scratch our advice would be to plan ahead, drive around the new neighborhoods for ideas, do online research for different design ideas and products and check out a few model homes and put down all your wants and needs upfront. Before you start, establish a vision and imagine yourself living in your new dream home. Most importantly, always expect the unexpected and keep an open mind.
