The Community of Bishops Bay
Q. What brought you to The Community of Bishops Bay, and what made you decide that this is the place to build your beautiful home?
A. We absolutely love The Community of Bishops Bay! We decided to build here due to its proximity to University Ave shopping, downtown, as well as it is just as easy to get to the airport and east side of Madison. We also love the uniqueness of different home styles as well as the architectural integrity in the various design elements.
Q. How do you enjoy life around the area? Any favorite local spots, traditions, or ways your family has gotten involved?
A. Some of our favorite things to do around the area include going to the different farmer’s markets, especially the main one downtown on the square on Saturday mornings. The abundance of freshly grown food here in Wisconsin is amazing!
One of the favorite traditions for our kids in Madison is “All City” which is a group of 13 summer swim & dive teams that compete against each other with an amazing finale at the end of the summer. It’s for all levels and ages up through just graduating high school. The kids have so much fun, not to mention it’s even great socializing for the adults too! The closest All City team to The Community of Bishops Bay is just down the road in Middleton.
We have two favorite local restaurants. For more special nights out we go to the Stamm House which is in a beautifully restored building from 1847. Our second favorite go to for casual meals is the Midtown Pub which is also locally owned and operated. The food is high quality and the service is great!
Q. What's one thing that you enjoy about having a home on a golf course (or something you may not have expected)?
A. Living on the golf course is not only picturesque, but also quite peaceful. Watching the sun set here never gets old! It is absolutely stunning!
Q. Are there particular features or design elements that you are happy were incorporated into your new home?
A. Our goal with the style of the home was for it to feel warm, comfortable and inviting. We have many favorite design elements, but the top of the list is the stonework blended with the rustic wood design elements (including a barnwood beam that we used for our outside fireplace mantel. We are also happy with incorporating a lot of built-in cabinetry throughout the home. Something else that we really loved is that many of our design choices were from Wisconsin based companies including our custom cabinets (Countryside Cabinets), plumbing fixtures (Kohler) and some of our appliances (Wolf / Sub-Zero).
Q. If you were giving advice to a friend before they built their own home, what would you tell them?
A. I think the biggest piece of advice we would offer someone is to “Trust the process!"
Q. What was the most exciting, or fun, part of the home building process?
A. Our most exciting parts of the building process were 1) the design phase and 2) starting to see everything coming together. Choosing the colors and textures is so much fun!
