Madison and Seth

The Community of Bishops Bay

Madison and Seth

Q. Where did you move from, and how did you end up in The Community of Bishops Bay?

A. We moved from downtown Chicago the week the world shut down during the pandemic - so crazy! We always knew we'd come back home to Madison (where Madison grew up), just not so soon or so sudden! We had actually purchased the lot in 2016, because we felt this neighborhood was amazing, and we knew we wanted to be part of the Community of Bishops Bay! We just needed to wait until the time was right, and that happened to be 4 years later!

Q. How do you spend time around the area? Are you involved in the community?

A. Madison is such a great town! We love to spend as much time outside as possible, and Seth is golf-obsessed, so we picked the right neighborhood! We are very much involved in the community because Madison's mom started a foundation, the Levy Giving Fund, which helps local charities. This area is filled with incredible charities and non-profits, and we are so lucky to live in such a giving city!

Q. Could you explain what it is about the neighborhood that you enjoy?

A. We love the different architecture and designs of the homes! Subdivisions are usually so cookie-cutter, and this neighborhood has so much character and beauty. Also, as we mentioned before, if Seth could live on the golf course, he would, so this is the next best thing.

Q. Are there particular features or design elements that you are happy were incorporated into your new home?

A. Dan suggested we make more of our room entryways arched than in the original plan, and it is our absolute favorite feature! It just added to the "modern Old World" touch we wanted! It's just beautiful!

Q. Were there any surprises of building a new home?

A. Really anything is possible! We live in a magical world of Pinterest and Google Images, and Dan and his team really made sure our vision came to life. We also totally appreciated when Dan made suggestions, because we almost always went with them! That really showed that he took the time and cared.

Q. Did you have a favorite part of the building process?

A. We built our home during the heart of the pandemic, which ended up being such a blessing and something fun to work on together while things were a little scary and unknown. We were living close to the lot, so we were able to check on the progress everyday (what else was there to do?!), and that made it all the more exciting! We looked forward to our meetings with Jaclyn, as she was one of the only humans we had contact with - ha ha!

Q. If you could offer advice about building, what would it be?

A. Always budget a little more. Not because we were over on quotes (though Madison had to do some puppy-dog-begging for our hardwood floors), but because you always think of more design ideas/wants/needs, and when you're taking the time to build a home, why not at least try and get everything you want! Also, when building during a pandemic, patience is key...even if that means living without a washer and dryer for a month!

Madison and Seth,
Thank you for the opportunity to work with you on your beautiful home, it's been our pleasure. Thanks, also, for allowing us to highlight it after you've done so much to make all the parts come together. What an amazing job!
