Roxanne and Jeff

Lake Delton

Our family has a lifetime of memories in the Lake Delton area and now with the help of Heffron Homes and their new lake house, we have a house to come home to.

~ Roxanne

Q. How did you end up building on Lake Delton?

A. Roxanne grew up on Lake Delton in the summers.  She worked at various tourist attractions each summer and finally landed a coveted summer job at the Tommy Bartlett Ski, Ski and Stage Show back in the 1980's and 1990's.  She enjoyed summers on the lake and working there through high school and college.  Years later, Jeff and Roxanne would bring their children to the Dells often to enjoy the lake, the natural beauty of the area, the fun of the attractions and memorable moments with Roxanne's dearest local friends.  They started looking for a cottage or summer house, but never found the right fit.  Eventually a property became available, and the family worked with architect, Steve Wollersheim, and Heffron Homes to build a quintessential lakehouse.  They moved in this summer and are already enjoying all things lake living brings, but especially the best sunset view on the lake.

Q. How do you spend time around the area and could you explain what it is about the area that you enjoy?

A. First off, it's important to note that the community of Lake Delton (the people) are what drew us here.  Many of our dearest lifelong friends are here.  Some of the hardest-working families in tourism are here.  It's a small town and truly a beautiful area.  We love the lakehouse and our view, morning coffee on the deck, lunches on the covered deck, fishing off of the pier, campfires at night, and paddleboarding around the bays - all bring us much happiness.  Jeff enjoys running and starts the day with a lap around Lake Delton.  Roxanne often meets up with friends and hikes the local trails while taking in the beauty of the river or nearby State Parks.  And the kids wait until sunset when the lake calms down and then venture out on the paddleboards and kayaks to explore the bays of the lake.  Everyone meets at the firepit after sunset to enjoy a campfire and a reflection on the day.

Q. With your family currently living out of the area, there may have been challenges related to the distance during the building process. How were these challenges addressed, including any support provided by our team?

A. Heff was always and email away!  Actually, the entire team was!  Roxanne enjoyed driving up to work with the design team for all of the selections.  The process was smooth and efficient.  We knew what we wanted when it came to the look and feel of the lakehouse.  The project turned out amazing.  We couldn't be happier and look forward to summers at the lake.

Q. Are there particular features or design elements that you are happy were incorporated into your new home?

A. We absolutely love the blue and white theme. Heffron Homes Designers, Jaclyn and her team, understood the look and feel that we wanted and kept us focused on making selections that incorporated this, from the blue refrigerator to the white living room beams.  We love the nautical inspired round accent windows.  The stair banister design is truly unique and Heff was able to compliment this on the deck railing and in the bunk room.  OH, the bunk room!!!  The kids have already filled it with friends and good times.  Heff even incorporated an indoor fitness gym for Jeff that probably has some of the best views of the lake.  Jaclyn also designed the perfect kitchen island and we look forward to entertaining our family there for the holidays.  Hopefully everyone will pack their ice skates because we are hoping to enjoy the lake year round!  The entire home is welcoming and comfortable.  Every family picture is from a Dells trip over the past 20+ years.  The lower level family room is decorated with vintage pennants from some of Wisconsin Dells' favorite attractions, and the pinnacle is a giant advertising poster from the 1950's featuring the Tommy Bartlett Show on Lake Delton.

Q. Did you have a favorite part of the building process (for instance, working with a designer; seeing the walls come together; when everyone was gone and you could move in?!)?

A. Honestly,  1. Tear down day;  2. Move in day

We enjoyed the in between too, and making day trips to the lake to see the progress.

Also, a super secret part of the build process that Heff probably doesn't even know, but some of our dearest friends all stopped by during the build process and wrote us messages on the house studs as they were going in.  Roxanne even wrote her own heartfelt thoughts onto some of the wood, including a tribute to a dear Dells friend who passed away but inspired the house design.  These are special in our heart.  What other lakehouse is THAT custom?!

Q. Were there any surprises of building a new home?

A. Well, there's always surprises when building.  This is our family's third home build so we tried to be prepared for anything.   Honestly, everything went pretty smoothly.  Heff took down the old house efficiently, and less than a year later the new house stood proudly in it's place, just in time to catch the sunsets of summer.

Q. If you could offer advice about building, what would it be?

A. Get a feel in your current house of what really works and what doesn't.  Use that as your inspiration.

Roxanne and Jeff,
What a fun and inspiring story to read about the process of your lake home, and the journey it was for it to come to life. Thank you for sharing the details and personal connection of the Lake Delton area. It was truly our pleasure to team up with your family to help create such a special place.
